A Borough Market Treasure

Sunday, 25th June 2023.

Back in Manchester after another week in London. Another travel trip ticked off, what a relief. I admit, I started to miss my little base here in Manchester. I would have not thought I'd ever say that, but it's good to be back.

London was an adventure as always, and I got to feel the business life more than ever. Important meetings, working in the Shard (I guess, an unspoken dream came true!), fancy business dinner later. It was a good week, exciting. Though with the early starts and full on days before 9am, there was hardly any time to post and blog about my new favourite coffee spot in the area.

We all know Borough Market is full with tasty treasures from all over the world, but after almost one year of working just off the market, I only came across Flat Cap Coffee a few months ago. If I had known, I would have not wasted £5 for a reusable cup that automatically made me go all the time to Monmouth Coffee. Yes, it was just outside our office, but Flat Cap's coffee tastes a thousand times better. Cleaner, softer. Monmouth Coffee has just lost a customer, here. And when the day arrives, I will also get my £5 back, but until now I keep hold of this reusable cup, because, you know, waste etc.

Back to Flat Cap Coffee! It's not a coffee shop as per se, but more like a movable coffee chart, with a big sunshade covering the booth from anything that might fall from above. They are just outside Lobos, the Spanish tapas place and usually two friendly lads are in charge of the coffee.

Flat Cap Coffee is a hand-built coffee chart, which was founded in 2008, by Fabio and Rob and they have been serving their specialty coffee ever since. They are part of the Notes-family, who have coffee shops all over London, with places to sit in. Borough Market is such a vibrant place though, seating in this hustle-and-bustle environment is not needed. The coffee is to be enjoyed on the go, strolling around the market or making it to the office on time. It's definitely a plus that they are not on the high-street, as I haven't encountered any morning queues the past few days. Lunch-time is when the queues are to be expected, when all the tourists are coming together at Borough Market.

There are plenty of different coffee shops in and around the Shard, but Flat Cap Coffee has so far taken over my favourite coffee place. As mentioned above, the coffee tastes smooth, the bitterness of the coffee beans well-balanced and, of course, mixed with Oatly oat milk is just a treat. The price of £3.80 is on the higher limit, though I am happy to pay it for a tasty cup that wakes me up. To add, Monmouth Coffee also charge you £3.80 (once you paid the £5), and the reusable cup is smaller than Flat Caps Coffee. So, you can only win by buying from them. Trust me. 😜
