Lots of thoughts went through my head this morning. Avocado on toast or only coffee? Clapham or Putney? Bus or walk? Which coffee shop? Do I have time? A lot of thoughts for someone who has been out last night and drank quite a fair bit of alcohol. It was 1.30am when I finally was in bed. So waking up at 6am didn't sound very good to me, and that's why I stayed in bed for another hour. Which then made me rush around, applying a bit of make-up and heading out of the house with no clue where to go.
I don't always walk and find a coffee shop accidentally, sometimes I do some research or google some places. Today I sneak-peaked RWRD for some inspiration and found a place nearby, however, they only opened at 9am, which was too late for me. Checking the time to Putney and imagining traffic, waiting for buses or trains, I decided not to head in that direction and walked along Northcote Road, looking out for a place I've never been before.
Cafes were either just opening or all other open spaces were places I've been to before. I ended up walking, going to a park with no coffee shop in sight at all. I started to be desperate, talking out loud to myself. "Where the hell am I going? I just wanted to have a cup of coffee ..."
In the end, I ended up on the same street as Bonsai Espresso Room, the place I've been last week. I had spotted some other places, so I thought I must find something. After a few shops, I saw a coffee sign, open doors, and walked in.
Prestige, the place was called. It didn't give me a prestigious feeling, though. There was one person sitting near the window, working on a laptop. The counter looked empty, no one was standing behind, on the far end of the shop the lights were still off. Was the shop open? Was the woman working there the owner or just a customer? I was very confused.
Then, a man appeared and I ordered an oat latte, wondering if they even offer oat milk. If they'd have croissants or other pastries, I would have bought one too, but it looked all a bit "unprepared" to me, so I stuck with the coffee only. I felt awkward, looking around. The only prestigious thing was the wall with flowers, it looked very Instagramy.
I paid, got my black cup and went outside to take my picture - I have still not mastered this skill and my self-confidence is very low on it, even though it's just taking a picture, isn't it? Well, there was someone making a weird comment about it, so I just walked away with my coffee in my hands and one picture on my phone. Luckily there is some filter, which can help, but I definitely need to pick up the game by taking pictures.
All in all, it was the weirdest discovery I did so far, but at least I managed to get a coffee and arrive back home in time for work. That's what counts in the end.
Happy Thursday, everyone!
