A Free Coffee Saved My Sunday

The sun was out today. No rain, for once. Time to go for a walk, grab a coffee, enjoy the day outside. I thought.

Then real life hit me. We are still in a pandemic. We are still in lockdown. And I've spent so much money on coffee and cake this week, that I should stay home and just drink my Nespresso coffee. ☹ A sad thought. I couldn't accept it. So I checked the RWRD app and remembered their e-mail offering me a free coffee.

I opened the app and checked if it was still available. It was indeed! The plan was made. I'd still go outside but won't pay for a coffee. Sounded like an idea.

Mask and Strava on, I hit the road. It was crowded in the park and I was shocked by the number of people who were not wearing a mask. If you go outside, please put your mask on. The least you can do if you also don't want to stay at home like me.

It took me about an hour to get to the coffee shop. A little place in the area of Nine Elms. Back in the day when I used to work in Vauxhall, RWRD was showing me this on the map, but I never had the time to search for this hidden place. Today I found it and was served by a very friendly and helpful barista. The Black Cab Coffee Company is a tiny coffee shop, which seems to be a place for an evening drink as well. I imagine this place changing from a coffee shop during day time into a tiny, hip bar during night time. I can't wait to find out once socialising is allowed again!

I redeemed my free coffee for an oat latte, which they didn't have, so I swapped for almond milk, which was not as bad as I thought. With my free treasure in my cold hands, I made my way back all the way through Battersea Power Station and Battersea Park, until I reached home after a two hours walk with my basic needs (walk and coffee) satisfied.

Happy Sunday!

As I mentioned in the post, the place is a bit hidden as it's at the back of one of the Riverlight Quays buildings. If you come from the Battersea Power Station it's the last building of the estate, if you come from Vauxhall, the first. Address: Riverlight Quay, Nine Elms Lane, London SW11 8AU
