Good morning, readers and coffee lovers!
This morning I woke up, running to the window (well, that's exaggerated, I slowly walked to the window) and checked whether it still rained. After three days of heavy rain, it had finally stopped. Which meant, I could go outside, go for a walk and - obviously - a coffee.
Since I've created Instagram, I have been connecting with local businesses such as Suzette Battersea or Sweet Smile Clapham. Suzette became a local favourite with its delicious croissants, but today I wanted to try something new and made my way to the bakery on Lavender Hill. Google told me they will be opening at 8am, which was perfect.
Sadly, today wasn't a lucky day, as the shop was still closed when I arrived in front of its doors. However, not far from Sweet Smile Clapham is Sendero Speciality Coffee and as I was in a desperate need of caffeine, so I tried my luck there.
To my surprise, the shop was crowded with people (all with 2 meters distance, of course) and I headed in and ordered my oat latte. I queued patiently to wait till my name was announced and with a smile on my face made my way back home.
Walking along the main road, sipping my hot drink, I remembered the headspace app and the course "Mindful Coffee Walk".
Mental Health and Mindfulness is an ongoing, important topic and I found the basic courses from Headspace quite good, so I subscribed to the whole package in December. Yesterday I completed a 30-day course and haven't practised another new course this morning. I remembered stumbling across the "Mindful Coffee Walk" session and found that today was the perfect time to do so. I had my hot drink, the sun was out and instead of listening to all the cars rushing by on the road, I focused on my own steps. Right, left, right, left. Free from thoughts.
Lockdown 3.0 is keeping us away from socialising once again and this can really get to your mind. I find it hard, almost get into the fear of not being able to socialise once we can, just because we aren't used anymore being around people. That was one of the reasons why I started with Headspace, just to keep my mind in the right place and don't let the dark clouds taking over.
And what is better than a bit of headspace and a tasty cup of coffee? Next time for sure it'll be the one from Sweet Smile Clapham.
Happy Thursday everyone!
